The Stay updated group in your menu has three pages. They look alike but come from different people, so it helps to know which is which.
Announcements
An announcement is something your instructor posts for everyone in a course or class, for example a change of class time or a reminder about an assignment. You only see announcements for the courses and classes you are enrolled in.
- The Announcements page lists them all, newest first. Ones your instructor has pinned stay at the top.
- The four figures show how many there are, how many were posted this week, how many are pinned, and how many courses you have.
- Each announcement shows who posted it, for which course, and when.
- The same announcements also appear where you study: on the course page, in the Announcements tab under a lesson in the course player, and on a live or on-campus class's page and classroom.
Notifications
Notifications are worked out by the portal from your own account: you do not need to do anything to receive them.
Kinds of notification

- Use All and Unread to filter, and Mark all as read to clear the count.
- Urgent ones come first; then what is coming up, the nearest first; then what already happened, the newest first.
- Need you now counts the urgent ones: overdue work and a class that is live.
Inbox
The inbox has one conversation for each course and each live or on-campus class you are enrolled in, with its instructor. Only you, your instructor and the NSDP team can read it.
Step 1: Open Inbox
Your conversations are listed on the left, the ones with the newest messages first. A green number shows unread replies.
Sign in to open this screenStep 2: Choose the course or class
Search by the course or the instructor's name if the list is long.
Step 3: Write your message and choose Send
Enter sends it; Shift + Enter starts a new line. A message can be up to 4000 characters of plain text.
Step 4: Come back for the reply
Your instructor answers when they are next in the portal. The reply appears in the same conversation; the page checks for new messages by itself while it is open.
- You can write only about a course or class you are enrolled in now.
- A message cannot be edited or deleted after it is sent, and files cannot be attached yet.
- For a question about a lesson that other students may also have, the Discussion forum under the lesson is the better place.
FAQ
I don't see any announcements.
Your instructors have not posted one for your courses yet. When they do, it shows here and on that course's page.
Can I reply to an announcement?
No. To ask about it, use the Discussion forum under a lesson in that course.
Do I also get an email?
Some events send an email as well, for example a certificate being issued or a class reminder when the programme has reminders switched on.
A notification is still there after I did the work.
The list is worked out when the page loads. Refresh the page after you submit the assignment or pass the quiz.
