Building the curriculum: sections and lessons

Add modules (sections) and lessons, reorder them, publish lessons, bulk-upload videos and files, and save the outline. What saves at once, what waits for Save, how changes to a live course are submitted, and the messages you may see.

The curriculum is the course's outline: modules (also called sections) in order, each holding lessons. Students only ever see published lessons, in the order you set. You open a lesson to add its content; see Lesson types.

Modules

  1. Step 1: Add a module

Choose Add module at the top. It is called New section 1 (and so on) and opens for renaming.

  2. Step 2: Rename it

Use the rename button beside the title, or Rename module in the module's ⋯ menu.

  3. Step 3: Reorder

Drag the handle, or use Move up / Move down in the ⋯ menu, which is handy on phones.

  4. Step 4: Duplicate or delete

Duplicate module copies it with all its lessons as “… (Copy)”. Delete module asks you to confirm, then removes it with its lessons once you save.

  • Publish all lessons in the module's ⋯ menu publishes every lesson in the module at once.
  • A module's opening time shows as a badge, such as Unlocks 7d after enrollment. It is set on the Release tab; Release settings in the module's ⋯ menu takes you straight to it.

Lessons

  1. Step 1: Choose Add lesson under a module

A draft lesson called Lesson 1 (and so on) is added and saved at once, and its title opens for editing.

  2. Step 2: Open the lesson

Select its title to open the lesson editor and add the video, text, PDF, audio, quiz or assignment.

  3. Step 3: Publish it

Select the Draft pill (or Publish lesson in the lesson menu). A lesson must have its content before it can be published.

Delete lessonAsks you to confirm, then removes the lesson once you save. Its uploaded files are deleted too unless another lesson uses them.

Each lesson row shows its type (Video, Text & images, PDF, Audio, Quiz, Assignment, HTML, Resource or Empty) and badges such as Needs content, its drip time, Comments on and Free preview. Lessons can be dragged between modules.

Bulk upload

  1. Step 1: Choose Bulk upload under a module

The Bulk Lesson Upload window opens.

  2. Step 2: Pick a source

Device (up to 20 files per batch; drag and drop them into the upload window or browse, and follow the progress there), Vimeo URLs or YouTube URLs (one link per line).

  3. Step 3: Upload

Each video becomes a draft video lesson; any other file becomes a draft lesson with the file attached as a resource. Lessons are named after the file (or “YouTube video …”).

  4. Step 4: Check and publish

Rename the new lessons if needed and publish them.

Lessons that need attention

Before saving, the page checks every lesson. A lesson without a title, or a published lesson without its content, is listed with the reason and nothing is saved until you fix it or set the lesson back to Draft.

Messages you might see

WhyThe server found a published lesson without content.

FixOpen the lesson named in the message, complete it, or change it to Draft.

  • “This course was modified by someone else since you loaded it. Reload and try again.”

WhyThe outline was saved elsewhere after you opened it. The page shows Someone else saved this course with Load latest version.

FixLoad the latest version and make your changes again.

Editing a course that is already live

When a course needs NSDP review (every campus course, and instructors' courses in most schools), saving the outline of a published course does not send it anywhere: the changes are kept as saved, not submitted yet, and students keep the approved outline. When all your edits are done, choose Submit changes for review at the top of the course and write what you changed. The changes go live once NSDP approves them. See What happens when a course is sent for review.

Differences for campuses

  • No Generate with AI and no Preview as a student on the curriculum page (use the Preview tab).
  • Instructors and campuses share the rest of the page, including the Review readiness checklist on the right: at least one module, every module has lessons, lessons published, no empty lessons, real module names, a free preview lesson, outline saved.

FAQ

Is there a limit on modules or lessons?

No fixed limit. Titles are 1–200 characters.

Why can't students see my new lesson?

It is still a Draft, the course isn't published or approved yet, or its module hasn't opened for them (see Release settings and drip schedules).

I deleted a lesson by mistake.

If you haven't saved, choose Discard (or leave without saving) to get it back. After saving it is gone.

Can I copy a lesson to another course?

Not from the curriculum page. You can duplicate a module within the same course.

How does Generate with AI work?

Instructors only, when the school has AI tools connected: it replaces the outline on screen with a draft built from the course information. Nothing is saved until you choose Save changes.
