Automatic attendance in live (Zoom) classes

Live online classes mark attendance on their own: joining in time is Present, joining more than 10 minutes late is Late, and leaving well before the end is Left early. Your own marks always win. Recorded courses use progress, not attendance.

In a live online class nobody needs to take a register. When a student presses Join inside the class window, the portal marks them; for classes the portal scheduled on Zoom, Zoom then tells the portal when the student joined and left, and the mark follows.

How a mark is set

  • PresentJoined from the join window (15 minutes before the start) up to 10 minutes after the start.
  • LateJoined more than 10 minutes after the start. Counts as present for certificates.
  • Left earlyZoom classes: left 10 minutes or more before the end with less than 75% of the class attended in total. Joining again counts again.
  • Present (replay)Opening the replay of a class marks it attended, unless it was marked Absent or Left early.

Your marks always win

  • Change any mark from the class's Attendance in your live class's Curriculum tab. A mark you set by hand is never changed by the join button or Zoom.
  • Every change, automatic or by hand, is kept in the class's edit history.

Recorded courses

Recorded courses have no classes and no attendance: a student's progress through the lessons is what counts.

On-campus classes

In-person classes have no join button: the teacher takes the roll call. See Taking attendance on campus.
