Students needing help (menu: Students → Students needing help, and a card on your dashboard) lists the students in your courses and classes who look like they are falling behind, so you can reach them before they give up.
Who is on the list
| Reason | When (school defaults) |
|---|---|
| Inactive | No activity for 7 days. Recorded courses: no progress. Live and on-campus classes: not present and nothing handed in, while classes were being held. |
| Low quiz score | Best score on a quiz below 50% and the quiz never passed. |
| Low attendance | Present at fewer than 75% of the classes held since joining, once at least 3 classes were held. Excused classes do not count against the student. |
| Work overdue | An assignment (or class-work quiz) past its due date with nothing handed in. Work due before the student joined does not count. |
| Progress stalled | A recorded course not finished, and no lesson completed for 14 days. |
The list is worked out once every morning, so a student who catches up drops off the next day. Live and on-campus classes are checked per batch. Campus teachers see the batches the campus gave them access to.
Sending an encouragement email
Step 1: Read the reasons
Each student shows why they are on the list, their last activity and, for recorded courses, their progress.
Step 2: Choose Send encouragement
A short, kind email goes to the student in your name, from the school's address. It mentions the course, encourages them according to their reasons, and links to the course. It never blames or shares marks.
Step 3: Follow up
The button shows Encouraged once sent. Replies come to the school's reply-to address; reply to the student from Student messages if they write to you.
The weekly digest
Every Monday morning (Pakistan time) you get one email with how many of your students need help, by reason and by course, and a link to the list. Nothing is sent when nobody is on your list.
For administrators
Admin → Instructor tools → Students needing help sets every threshold above, the encouragement limits, the weekly digest, and can switch the list off. Changes apply from the next morning's run.
